Your role and responsibilities
ABB’s Traction division is a pioneering technology leader that offers innovative and energy efficient traction systems
for railway rolling stock, electric buses, mining and off-road utility vehicles. Our state of the art and comprehensive
portfolio of traction equipment and high-performance battery energy storage systems help customers all over the world
to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions that gives our work a powerful sense of purpose. We are seeking a
highly experienced professional to lead our global product management team that is accelerating the transformation of
the transport sector to a low carbon and sustainable future. Your responsibilities • Develop and lead high-performing
product teams, fostering a culture of transparency, continuous learning, and collaboration. • Empower teams by
providing opportunities for growth, development, and learning. • Define and manage product requirements and market
specifications for existing products, ensuring alignment with customer needs and the long-term strategic objectives of
sustainable growth and profitability. • Analyze product performance, set metrics, track progress, and take corrective
actions such as product improvements, cost-cutting, or phase-outs. • Make data-driven decisions about product
enhancements, cost reductions and plan for product obsolescence while ensuring alignment with market demand and
profitability goals. • Develop clear customer value propositions per segment to ensure the products are well-positioned
and aligned with market as well as customer needs. • Conduct thorough market research to understand industry trends,
customer needs, and competitive landscapes. • Stay updated on relevant regulations and standards that impact the market
and product development. • Identify gaps in the current product portfolio, comparing it to competitors and emerging
market opportunities. • Develop product roadmap and detailed business plans to bridge portfolio gaps and capitalize on
new opportunities. • Act as the technical interface between customers and internal teams (Sales, Engineering, R&D,
operations etc.), ensure their buy-in and convert opportunities/ challenging technical concepts to projects and
successful products. • Provide regular volume forecasts to ensure supply chain and production can meet customer
demands. • Work with operations to set product cost targets and maximize competitiveness while keeping profitability in
mind. • Continuously improve product management processes and tools as well as their interface & collaboration with
other functions. • Lead the development of product training materials and programs for both internal teams and external
customers. • Build and sustain trustful relationships with customers by understanding and meeting their needs. • Handle
challenging customer issues, non-conformities, and escalations with tact and efficiency.
Qualifications for the role
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent area of studies.
- Over 10 years of experience in an industrial environment covering roles in engineering, R&D and product management
with a preference for experience in more than one area.
- Expertise in power electronic converters or variable frequency drives with knowledge of the railway and/or
e-Mobility sectors being a significant advantage.
- Proven track record in managing products globally specifically in the field of power electronics for mobile
applications with a strong focus on energy efficiency
- Highly self-motivated with a proactive approach, strategic mindset and strong problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to lead by influence, adopting a collaborative and solution-oriented approach.
- Skilled in managing complex customer relationships and effectively resolving escalations.
